Favicon Generator

Generate every favicon size your site needs — 16, 32, 48, Apple touch 180, Android 192 and 512 — from one image.

Turn a logo into the full set of PNG icons browsers and phones request, center-cropped square and ready to drop into your site, with the exact HTML snippet to paste into your head tag. Generated locally in your browser.

Your image never leaves your browser — icons are generated on your device. Start from the largest source you have (512×512 or bigger) so small icons stay crisp.

Modern browsers accept PNG favicons, so no .ICO file is required for current Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose your logo or image (512 x 512 or larger is ideal).
  2. Click each size button to download that icon.
  3. Copy the HTML snippet into your site's <head>.
  4. Upload the icons to your site root.

The formula

Non-square sources are center-cropped: crop size = min(width, height), starting at ((width − size) ÷ 2, (height − size) ÷ 2), then scaled to each target size.

Worked example

A 1000 x 600 logo is cropped to the centered 600 x 600 region starting at (200, 0), then exported as favicon-16x16.png through android-chrome-512x512.png.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which sizes do I actually need?

The essentials are 16x16 and 32x32 for browser tabs, 180x180 for Apple home-screen bookmarks, and 192x192 plus 512x512 for Android/PWA installs. This tool makes all of them (plus 48x48) from one image so you never hunt for a missing size.

Do I still need a .ICO file?

For current Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, PNG favicons linked with the snippet this tool provides are fully supported — an .ICO bundle is a legacy nicety, not a requirement. The snippet uses the standard link tags all modern browsers read.

My logo is not square. What happens?

The largest centered square is cropped from it — a 1000 x 600 logo uses the middle 600 x 600 (starting 200 px from the left). For a deliberate composition, crop to square first with the Crop Image tool on this site.

What source image gives the crispest icons?

The largest you have — ideally 512 x 512 or bigger, with a simple, bold design. Fine detail and thin text disappear at 16 px, which is why famous favicons are single letters or simple shapes.

Where do the files go on my site?

Upload them to your site's root (or wherever the href paths point) and paste the provided snippet into the <head> of your pages. Browsers fetch /favicon.ico by default, so also keeping a classic favicon file at the root is harmless.
